When the students met it for the first time, it tried to come off as very threatening at first and gave the impression that it was an extremely important final boss, but it was soon revealed to be rather harmless and a bit comical.įitting its name, Motherkuma seemingly acts quite motherly towards the Monokumas it gives birth to. Motherkuma has the same overall personality as ordinary Monokumas, as it mentions that Monokumas have its copied thoughts and it technically gives birth to itself. The left eye is also a circular blue disk instead of the traditional normal black eye.ĭue to Motherkuma's overall function and design, it is confined to and cannot leave the hidden room in the library. The only difference is that the white half of the face is instead exposed, allowing one to see all the components within the robot. Motherkuma appears as a giant Monokuma head in a large glass jar with countless wires going into it. The footage they record is sent wirelessly to Motherkuma, effectively making it the hivemind of all Nanokumas. Motherkuma is also connected to the Nanokumas, microscopic Monokumas that come in swarms and act as the surveillance cameras for the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles. It supposedly uses the large machine behind it in order to create spare Monokumas. This is done when the Mastermind, later revealed to be Tsumugi Shirogane, says "birth a new Monokuma", triggering Motherkuma's voice recognition software. His bulging navel has an X mark on it.Motherkuma's primary purpose is to create new Monokumas. He also has a large and obvious bellybutton on the lower part of his belly. Although he is entirely split into two opposite sides, the only parts of Monokuma that aren't affected by the split is his muzzle and belly area which both remain white. His left side shows a more sinister look - black in color, with a red slash for an eye with a camera visible within and an evil, stretched grin. His right side is white in color and has the classic teddy bear expression. In some occasions, Monokuma would show his good side in regular conversation but would turn to his bad side when he's angry, merciless, or ruthless. It resembles the Yin-Yang symbol of which there's a balance between good and bad. Monokuma's entire face and body splits equally down the center into two sides. He is Usami's "brother" who had adopted her and later renamed her as "Monomi". There are seemingly infinite copies of Monokuma, and he seems to have the ability to teleport. He appears in both Dangan Ronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and its sequel, Super Dangan Ronpa 2: Goodbye Despair as a model of an animatronic bear used as an avatar to interact with the students by the mastermind.
